Women

Our goal in Women’s Ministries at Newton Presbyterian Church is to walk beside you wherever you are in the journey of faith. Along with informal conversations over coffee in the vestry after the services, our church provides several venues for women to grow closer to one another and to God. I’ve listed several of them below. For more information about any of the opportunities on this page, please contact me, Nici Smith, Director of Women’s Ministries, at npcwomen@npc.org.

Small Groups: Connect To God and Others

Thursday Morning Women’s Bible Study
Bored of the same old church talk? Tired of superficial relationships?  Join us on Thursday mornings as we dig deep into God’s word and challenge each other to follow Jesus with fresh energy on the narrow road. Content-based childcare is provided for children from infants on up. Our Newton Presbyterian Church small group periodically joins churches from around the greater Boston area for large group lectures. This fall we are studying 1 John.

Time: 9:45 AM – 11:45 AM
Venue: Upper Room

The Mom Connection
Need to spend time with others traveling through the ups, downs, twists, and turns of motherhood?  Each Friday we gather to share stories, advice when requested, prayer requests, fellowship, and steaming cups of coffee. This group is open to all and welcomes any moms who are looking for a place to connect. During our meeting time, our children are cared for by wonderful childcare workers who lead them in a craft, outdoor play time when whether permits, songs, a Bible story, and a snack.   A number of speakers share their stories and encourage those of us new to this adventure – click here to find a schedule of our upcoming speakers and meetings.  We hope to see you soon!

Time: 9:45 AM – 11:45 AM
Venue: Upper Room

Wednesday Evening Women's Bible Study
Gather with women in all stages of the journey for fellowship, study, and prayer. Again and again, we hear how Thursday evenings have changed lives -- a testimony to the power of the Living Word, prayer, and the blessings of friendship.  If you desire to discover and/or know the Lord better, and spend time with women who are genuinely caring, please join us! This fall we are studying a 13-week DVD-based course called Renovation of the Heart: Putting on the Character of Christ, led by Dallas Willard, (with Larry Crabb and John Ortberg).

Time: 7 PM
Venue: Church Parlor

NPC Women’s Panels: Sharing The Wisdom
Join women of all ages for informative, inspiring panels two to three times a year as we explore a variety of relevant subjects. During each event, three panelists from the congregation respond to questions asked by others seeking wisdom and guidance. They provide straight talk, authentic answers, humor, and grace; we provide delectable desserts, tea, and candlelight. This (fall) we will host a panel on “Discovering our Identity as Women of God”.  Don't miss this exciting event, Sunday November 2nd, 2008.

Time: 7 PM
Venue: Church Parlor

The Three Rs of Retreats: Rest, Recreation, and Renewal
Need some refreshment for the soul? Half-day retreats are held at NPC twice each year, usually in the spring and fall.  An eloquent, inspiring speaker addresses a faith topic, and we reflect on how to apply what we’ve learned to our daily lives. Lunch provides a lovely time for good conversations with old and new friends. Upcoming Day retreat:  Saturday October 4th, 2008 with speaker Esther Hollow, “Hope for troubled times”

Time: 10:30 AM – 1PM
Venue: Church Parlor

Weekend Retreats
Weekend retreats are held every other year at a retreat center by the sea.  We take a break from our busy schedules, relax, and reopen our hearts and minds for a time of renewal in Christ.  Meals are provided and fun is encouraged.

Upcoming Weekend Retreat:  May 15-17 2009, speaker and topic TBA
