Who is God?

Sunset at Cape Cod. The golden hues of autumn. A line of music or poetry. The delight of a child at play. Watching shooting stars in the summer sky.

During life's numinous moments, something whispers to us about an unseen Presence. Questions surface that we squelch in the thick of our noisy, fast-paced lives: Could there actually be a supernatural designer of the universe? Is this Creator a personal God, or merely a life-force? Is there a single almighty being or a multiplicity with various identities and roles? How do I know? Where do I begin?

Those questions are a good place to start. But you'll need to explore some of humanity's answers. Read the great texts of the world's religions. When you get to the Bible, we recommend that you read four short sections about the life of a man called Jesus (the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

Jesus taught about a God who is Spirit, infinite, eternal and unchanging. God is sovereign, omnipotent (all-powerful), omniscient (all-knowing) and omnipresent (all places at all times). God is perfectly holy and perfectly just. God is wisdom, power, glory, righteousness, mercy, faithfulness, goodness, beauty, and patience. God is love. God is truth.

But Jesus didn't just stop at teaching about God. He claimed to be God, fully connected to the designer of the universe—the divine Creator taking on human flesh. Was he right? You'll have to decide for yourself. Contact us if you want company as you explore this crucial question.
